Websites that Convert!

Websites that Convert!

Conversion Optimization

On the recent webinar with Peep Laja, the issue was how to build a new website, or how to revamp an old one and how it can be a pretty hard thing to accomplish. We all want to attract visitors and customers. If you start from scratch it can be a really difficult process, but here are a few things that you need to know so you can get to your visitors and customers faster.

Looks that sell

The first thing that you need to think about is the design. The way your website looks has a huge impact on your visitors. If your visitors don’t like the design, if it is repulsive, then it doesn’t really matter what your website contains. Your visitors already don’t really like you and don’t really trust you, and when it comes to online selling, trust is everything. So, the way you build your website in order to get sales starts with the design.Conversion Optimization

Less is more

When you are building a website, if you want your website to attract visitors and most of all, if you want your website to have a good design, you don’t need a team of 5+ people to design your website. If you are a company, and you want a new site that converts, you need to have just one person working on your website. That one person needs to know what they are doing, they have to make all the decisions and carry all of the responsibilities. The person you assign to make the website design can consult with others, but the decisions must be made by that one person so the website is not a disaster.

Universal principles to build a website that converts

There are a few universal principles to get your website to covert well. The first thing is simplicity. The simpler the website is, the better. If the website design is too complicated, the visitors won’t like it. If the design is clear and simple, they will have no problem finding what they need and with a simple website, you can have a bigger influence on them, so they take the action you want them to take. No matter if it comes to buying the product you sell, take the survey or sign up for newsletters. You can make all that just by making a clean and simple website design.

Don’t push

The most common mistake the new website owners make is pushing people to do something – “buy this, buy that, send us an email” and so on. If you have a lot of computing actions and none of them is prominent, you will get nothing at the end. So, the best thing you can do is make the website as simple as possible and you will gain a lot.

When is my website simple enough?

conversionxlTwo things will tell you that your website is simple enough:

  • When there is nothing left to remove – this applies to your website home page and product page
  • Keep just what you need – you have an exact action you want your customers to take, remove everything from your website that is not directly connected with your goal
